Gold stars go top, Kotoko advance in GPL title race

Bibiani Gold Stars moved to the top of the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League (GPL) after a 1-0 home win over Vision FC on Sunday, taking advantage of Medeama SC’s defeat to regain control at the top with eight matches left.

Michael Nkoah scored early in the second half at Dun’s Park to secure the points, extending Gold Stars’ strong home form and lifting them to 48 points, two ahead of Medeama.

Medeama dropped to second after a 2-1 defeat to Dreams FC at the Tuba AstroTurf. Adams Aminu and Abdul Razak Salifu scored for Dreams before Kelvin Nkrumah replied for the visitors, whose once comfortable eight point lead has evaporated.

Asante Kotoko climbed to third with a 3-0 victory over Nations FC in Kumasi. Albert Amoah opened the scoring before late penalties from Samba O’Neil and Morifing Donzo sealed the win, leaving Kotoko six points off the top.

Accra Hearts of Oak’s inconsistent campaign continued with a goalless draw away to Heart of Lions in Kpando on Friday.

The Phobians are now fourth, level on points with arch-rivals Kotoko (42 points).

Bechem United improved their chances of survival with a 2-1 derby win over Aduana FC, who slipped further out of the title picture. Berekum Chelsea also boosted their relegation fight with a 2-0 win over Karela United.

Basake Holy Stars extended their strong home record with a 1-0 victory over Young Apostles at the AAK II Sports Arena. Francis Oteng Gyatuah struck in the 19th minute to secure a ninth straight home win, moving Holy Stars to eighth on 36 points. Young Apostles fell into the relegation zone.

Swedru All Blacks climbed out of the bottom three after a 1-0 win over Hohoe United, with Rudolf Mensah scoring in the first half. Hohoe dropped into the relegation places as a result.

In Swedru, Techiman Eleven Wonders staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 with FC Samartex.

The draw leaves Eleven Wonders bottom, while Samartex were left to regret squandering a two goal lead.
