Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno was appointed as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President John Dramani Mahama on March 13, 2025, and officially sworn into office on March 14, 2025, at the Presidency in Accra.
Taking over from COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, he brings to the role four decades of extensive experience in law enforcement. His appointment is expected to drive the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service to align with contemporary security demands.
A distinguished career in law enforcement
With 40 years of national and international experience, IGP Yohuno has established himself as a highly dedicated and professional law enforcement officer.
Prior to his elevation, he served as the Deputy IGP, where he played a crucial role in shaping security policies, enhancing crime prevention strategies, and improving law enforcement operations.

Academic and professional qualifications
IGP Yohuno has a solid academic background, equipping him with the expertise needed for strategic leadership.
He holds an Executive Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Project Management from the University of Ghana Business School, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Human Resource Management) from the same institution.
His professional qualifications include training at the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), where he completed Intermediate A and B studies at the Institute of Professional Studies, Legon (1988-1990).
His secondary education was at Okuapeman Secondary School, where he obtained his General Certificate of Education (GCE) – Advanced Level (1980-1982), and GCE – Ordinary Level (1975-1980) under the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
In addition to his academic qualifications, he has undergone rigorous police training.
He holds a Diploma in Police Administration from the Ghana Police College, where he was commissioned into the officer corps on March 13, 1992.
Before that, he graduated as Chief Inspector – General Policing on August 1, 1986, from the Ghana National Police Training School.
