Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged John Dramani Mahama, the former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to allow him the opportunity to become president since Mahama has already held the position.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted that he could serve two terms, while the former president is limited to only one more term.

During a meeting with Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV at his palace in Wa on Sunday, May 19, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the appropriateness of his candidacy, noting their shared Northern heritage.

“Both my main opponent, John Dramani Mahama, and I are your children. We are both from the North, and he has already served as president while I have not,” Dr. Bawumia remarked. “I have conveyed to him that as my senior brother, he should allow me the chance to serve as president of this country.”

Dr. Bawumia added, “I can potentially serve as president for eight years, while he can only serve for four more years. Therefore, if the presidency is to remain in the North, it makes more sense for it to be for eight years rather than just four.”
