GAF rescues survivors of deadly convoy attack in Burkina Faso

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has successfully evacuated three survivors of last Friday’s insurgent attack on a convoy of vehicles transporting Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso.

The attack occurred in the Northern Burkina town of Titao, resulting in the deaths of eight traders and leaving several others injured. Following the tragic incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that efforts were underway to bring the remaining victims back to Ghana for treatment.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the GAF confirmed that the three survivors had been safely airlifted to Ghana and were now receiving medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. The statement also expressed condolences to the victims and their families.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that coordination with local authorities in Burkina Faso was key to facilitating the evacuation.

The Ministry also emphasised the importance of timely medical intervention for the injured and assured the public that all necessary support would be provided.

Local media in Burkina Faso reported that security forces in Titao responded to the attack, though details about the assailants remain unclear. Ghanaian authorities continue to engage with their counterparts in Burkina Faso to investigate the attack and prevent future incidents targeting Ghanaian traders.

The evacuation has been welcomed by family members and the wider community, who expressed relief that the surviving victims are now in safe hands.
