Eid-ul-Fitr to be observed nationwide — Chief Imam

Muslims across Ghana will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, following the sighting of the new moon, the Office of the National Chief Imam has announced.

The declaration signals the conclusion of the month-long fasting period observed by Muslims worldwide, characterised by prayer, reflection and acts of charity.

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most important festivals on the Islamic calendar, will be marked with special congregational prayers at mosques and designated grounds across the country.

The Office of the Chief Imam urged Muslims to uphold the values of discipline, sacrifice and unity cultivated during Ramadan, and to continue to promote peace and national cohesion.

Faithful have also been encouraged to give Zakat al-Fitr to support the less privileged, in line with Islamic teachings, to ensure that all members of society can partake in the celebrations.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway nationwide, with families organising meals and social gatherings to mark the occasion.

Authorities have called for calm and orderliness during the festivities, urging the public to observe safety guidelines.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks not only the end of fasting but also a period of gratitude, renewal and communal solidarity among Muslims in Ghana.
