The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has said Ghana is fast emerging as one of the leading and most competitive tourism destinations in West Africa.
He attributed the development to the country’s strong safety record and increasing tourist arrivals.
Speaking in an interview with OurHomelandGhana, Mr Santana noted that Ghana currently leads the sub-region in tourist arrivals and ranks highly on the global safety index.
According to data from the Ghana Statistical Service, domestic tourism recorded significant growth in 2023, increasing by over 200 per cent, with more than 15 million Ghanaians travelling and contributing over GH¢18 million to the economy.
Mr Santana added that Ghana continues to attract a growing number of international visitors, particularly African-Americans, due to its safety, hospitality and rich cultural heritage.
