The High Court has authorised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, as part of an ongoing investigation.
The court also granted EOCO authority to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation. The court, however, asked EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament.
EOCO had applied for the orders, telling the court that efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance had been unsuccessful.
The Office further expressed concern that documents connected to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed if the requested orders were not granted.
The latest development follows a confrontation at the Accra High Court on September 23, when EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah.
EOCO later explained that the attempted arrest was connected to an investigation for which the MP had been invited twice in February 2026.
Mr Baffour Awuah has, however, challenged EOCO’s account of the matter.
According to him, the investigation relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which had previously engaged his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
He said after receiving EOCO’s February invitation, he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, following which a representative of his former firm appeared before EOCO investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30.
The representative, he said, provided information requested by the investigators, including a written statement.
The investigation is linked to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans.
Mr Baffour Awuah has explained that his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover approximately GH¢3.5 million it had invested with Equity Savings and Loans.
He said the investment, including accrued interest, had eventually reached about GH¢14 million before the parties reached a negotiated settlement.
EOCO has not publicly disclosed the full scope or details of its investigation.
The court’s latest order provides the Office with legal authority to arrest the MP and conduct the search and seizure in connection with the investigation.
