Ghana’s Black Queens ended their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on a high note with a commanding 4-0 victory over Malawi’s Scorchers in Casablanca.
Forward Doris Boaduwaa stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while substitute Sharon Sampson added a late fourth goal to hand coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side an emphatic win in their final pre-tournament friendly.
The convincing performance came after Ghana had been held to a goalless draw by Tanzania in an earlier warm-up match.
The Black Queens made a bright start, with Boaduwaa opening the scoring in the eighth minute.
She doubled Ghana’s advantage in the 37th minute after an impressive solo run, giving the West Africans a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
Boaduwaa completed her hat-trick just two minutes into the second half to put the result beyond doubt before Sampson, coming off the bench, sealed the rout with a fourth goal 16 minutes from time.
The comprehensive victory provides a timely confidence boost for the Black Queens ahead of the continental championship, where they have been drawn in Group C alongside Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.
Coach Björkegren will be encouraged by his side’s attacking display as Ghana looks to make a strong impression when the 2026 WAFCON gets underway.
