Ghana exit FIFA World Cup after 1-0 defeat to Colombia

Ghana’s FIFA World Cup campaign came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in a closely contested Round of 32 clash at Kansas City Stadium.

An early goal from Jhon Arias proved decisive as Colombia secured a place in the Round of 16. Arias found the back of the net in the 14th minute after being set up by Luis Suárez, who had entered the match as an early substitute.

The Black Stars responded positively and created several promising opportunities but were unable to find the breakthrough against a disciplined Colombian defence.

Ghana pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Colombia held firm to preserve their slender lead and book their place in the next round.

The victory sends Colombia into the Round of 16, where they will face Switzerland for a place in the quarter-finals.

Despite the defeat, Ghana can reflect on a spirited World Cup campaign, having produced a number of impressive performances before bowing out in the knockout stage.

Colombia, meanwhile, will turn their attention to the last-16 encounter with Switzerland as they continue their quest for World Cup success.
