Barima Sarpong receives hero’s welcome in Afigya Sekyere East

Lawyer Barima Sarpong received a rousing welcome from chiefs, New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and residents of Afigya Sekyere East Constituency on Tuesday as he embarked on a tour of the area to reconnect with constituents and share his vision for the development of the constituency.

The visit, which many residents described as a “homecoming of service,” took him to several communities, including Dawu, Tabre and Jamasi, where he held meetings with traditional leaders, party stakeholders and community members.

The tour began with a courtesy call on the Dawumanhene, Nana Frimpong Ababio Otumfuo Brempong, at his palace in Dawu.

The chief warmly welcomed the lawyer, offering prayers and blessings for his aspirations to serve the constituency.

From Dawu, Lawyer Barima proceeded to Tabre and Jamasi, where he interacted with opinion leaders and grassroots supporters. One of the highlights of the visit was a meeting with former Chief of Staff under President John Agyekum Kufuor, Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, who received him at his residence and shared words of encouragement.

Addressing residents during a series of community engagements, Lawyer Barima reflected on his upbringing and the role the people of Afigya Sekyere East played in shaping his life and values.

“Dawu, Tabre and Jamasi are not just towns on the map. They are the foundation of my story. I have come back home because service to my people is the highest calling I have,” he told cheering supporters.

The visit attracted enthusiastic crowds, with many residents expressing admiration for the lawyer’s humility and commitment to the constituency.

Supporters repeatedly chanted slogans in his support, describing him as a leader who understands the needs and aspirations of the people.

Lawyer Barima, who contested the NPP parliamentary primary in 2023 but was unsuccessful, used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to public service and his determination to contribute to the development of the constituency.

Speaking about his political future, he said he remained optimistic and guided by faith.

“God has a plan for me, and I believe it shall surely come true. My desire is to serve Afigya Sekyere East with integrity and bring real development to our people,” he stated.

Both Nana Frimpong Ababio Otumfuo Brempong and Mr. Okyere Mpiani offered their blessings and encouragement, urging him to remain connected to the grassroots and continue engaging with constituents.

Political observers say the visit has reignited discussions within the NPP in Afigya Sekyere East regarding future leadership of the constituency, with many party members viewing the tour as a demonstration of Lawyer Barima’s continued commitment to the area.

Residents who participated in the engagements expressed hope that whoever eventually represents the constituency would prioritise development, job creation and improved living standards for the people.

The visit concluded with renewed calls from supporters for greater unity within the party and a collective focus on advancing the development agenda of Afigya Sekyere East.
