‘I retired from music three years ago’ — Shatta Wale

Dancehall star Shatta Wale has disclosed that he retired from active music three years ago, despite remaining one of the most influential and visible figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

The revelation came during an interview with Bola Ray on Thursday, May 28, 2026, where the award-winning artiste spoke extensively about his transition from music into business and entrepreneurship.

When asked whether he had achieved enough financial success to step away from music, Shatta Wale responded without hesitation: “I retired three years ago.”

The statement immediately sparked discussion among fans and industry players, given that the artiste continues to release music, perform at major events, and maintain a strong presence both online and on stage.

Clarifying his position, Shatta Wale explained that while music remains part of his public identity, his primary focus has shifted toward building businesses and creating long-term wealth through investments and innovation.

Yes, I’m doing business. Hot Wave, Shaxi,” he told Bola Ray, highlighting some of the ventures under his growing business portfolio.

According to him, his entrepreneurial ambitions now extend beyond Ghana, with business connections and partnerships being developed in international markets, including China and Dubai.

One of the major projects he discussed was a newly launched digital marketplace platform developed with a team of international software engineers. The platform is designed to support traders and modernise commercial activities around Accra’s Tuesday Market through technology-driven solutions.

Hinting at bigger plans ahead, Shatta Wale declared: “Something explosive is coming.”

He added: “So that is what we launched yesterday, and it’s beautiful,” referring to the rollout of the e-commerce platform.

Despite insisting that he has retired from music, Shatta Wale’s activities continue to tell a different story. The artiste remains highly active in the entertainment industry, regularly releasing new songs, engaging fans through social media, and headlining major concerts across the region.

His annual Shattafest remains one of Ghana’s biggest music events, attracting thousands of fans and featuring performances from both local and international artistes.

For many observers, Shatta Wale’s comments suggest not a complete departure from music, but rather a shift in priorities—from being solely an entertainer to becoming a businessman who still uses music as part of a broader brand and business empire.
