The Ghanaian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular actress and media personality Beverly Afaglo, whose passing was announced by her husband, Choirmaster.
The actress, born on May 28, 1983, died just days before her 43rd birthday, leaving fans, colleagues, and industry players in shock. The cause of death had not officially been disclosed as of press time.
Choirmaster, known privately as Eugene Kwadwo Boadu Baah and famous as a member of the celebrated hiplife group Praye, announced the heartbreaking news in an emotional tribute posted on social media.
“My heart is shattered beyond words over the death of my beloved wife Beverly Afaglo,” he wrote.
“It would have been just like four more days to your birthday but I guess the Lord wanted to celebrate with you so He called you.”
The musician described the late actress as the pillar of his life, saying she remained his greatest supporter throughout their marriage and career journey.
“You were my strength, my happiness, and the reason my life felt complete. Every moment with you was a blessing I will cherish forever,” he added.
“I am hearing your voice right now cheering me up as always, my number one fan. I promise to take care and continue everything we planned and started. Until my last breath, you will remain in my heart forever. Sleep well my babe.”
Tributes have since poured in across social media, with actors, musicians, broadcasters, and fans mourning one of Ghana’s most recognisable movie personalities.
From beauty therapy to stardom
Beverly Afaglo was widely admired not only for her acting talent but also for her versatility as a television presenter and entrepreneur.
Originally from Ghana’s Volta Region, Beverly trained as a beauty therapist at the FC Institute of Beauty Therapy before furthering her education at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where she studied journalism and public relations.
Before fully establishing herself in acting, she ventured into television presentation and became a familiar face on entertainment television programmes, including TV3’s “Music Music” and Metro TV’s “Beauty & Style.”
Her acting career blossomed in the mid-2000s when she starred in several Ghanaian movies that became hugely popular among local audiences.
Some of her most notable films included Return of Beyonce, Crime to Christ, Girls Connection, Never Again, Turn Me On, The Game and Single Six.
She also featured prominently in productions such as Secret Burden, About to Wed, Aloe Vera and I Hate You Too.
Her performances earned her admiration for her ability to combine humour, emotion, and strong screen presence. In 2010, she won the Best Actress in Comedy award at the Terracotta Awards in Nigeria.
Marriage and family life
Beverly married Choirmaster in 2012, and the couple became one of Ghana’s most admired celebrity families.
They had two daughters together and frequently shared moments of their family life publicly. Beverly often spoke openly about balancing motherhood, marriage, business, and entertainment.
In several interviews over the years, she described family as her greatest priority and credited marriage with helping shape her life positively.
She once admitted that marriage may have slowed aspects of her acting career but said she remained grateful for the stability and purpose it brought into her life.
“I’m happy I got married; otherwise, I would have wasted my life,” she said in one interview while reflecting on her youthful years.
The actress also defended her husband publicly on several occasions during difficult periods in his music career and remained one of his strongest supporters after the breakup struggles of the Praye group.
Entrepreneurial journey
Beyond entertainment, Beverly built a strong entrepreneurial profile.
She operated Glamour Beauty Salon in Tema and later ventured into other businesses, including home services and food franchises.
In 2024, she launched “Traffic Shawarma,” expanding her growing business portfolio while continuing to advocate for greater support for veteran actors in Ghana’s movie industry.
Despite periods of reduced visibility on screen, Beverly remained active in public life and continued engaging her large social media following with discussions about family, business, relationships, and the entertainment industry.
Outpouring of grief
News of her passing has triggered widespread grief across Ghana’s entertainment fraternity, with many describing her as warm, outspoken, hardworking, and deeply family-oriented.
Several fans also recalled the devastating fire incident in 2021 that destroyed much of her home, an experience she openly discussed while rebuilding her life and businesses.
Her death marks another painful loss for Ghana’s creative arts industry, where she spent nearly two decades entertaining audiences through film, television, and media.
She leaves behind her husband, two daughters, family members, friends, and a generation of fans who grew up watching her on screen.
