The World Bank has forecast Ghana’s economic growth to moderate to 4.8% in 2026, down from an estimated 6% in 2025, signaling a slowdown after a strong post-pandemic rebound.
The projection, contained in the Bank’s latest Africa Economic Update, reflects a combination of tightening domestic conditions and external pressures, even as key macroeconomic fundamentals continue to improve.
Despite the slowdown, the Bank expects inflation to ease, with the year-end rate projected at around 9%.
Analysts attribute the disinflation to improved currency stability, tight monetary policy, and easing external pressures, which could provide relief to consumers and businesses alike.
For firms, the outlook is mixed. Weaker domestic demand, cautious investment sentiment, and uncertainty in the global economy may limit expansion across key sectors.
On the other hand, lower inflation could boost consumer purchasing power and reduce operational costs, offering some breathing space for businesses.
The World Bank has cautioned that Ghana remains vulnerable to global shocks, including fluctuations in commodity prices, volatile financial conditions, and geopolitical risks that affect trade and energy markets.
Any of these could erode the gains in growth and inflation if not carefully managed.
On the regional front, Sub-Saharan Africa’s growth is projected to hold steady at 4.1% in 2026, unchanged from 2025.
However, the Bank notes that downside risks are mounting as the region’s recovery from successive global shocks loses momentum. Heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, high debt-service burdens, and structural economic challenges are weighing on growth and employment prospects. Recent disruptions to global shipping and attacks on energy facilities have further intensified these risks.
Despite these challenges, the World Bank says Ghana’s medium-term outlook remains stable, with growth expected to hover around 5% in the coming years.
The country is entering a phase of measured recovery, prioritising stability over rapid expansion.
