Govt opens application portal for teacher recruitment on April 10

The government has announced plans to recruit at least 7,000 teachers nationwide to address staffing shortages and improve access to education, especially in underserved communities.

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement at a media briefing on Wednesday, April 1, stating that the recruitment exercise has received financial clearance.

He said the application process will open on April 10 through a dedicated recruitment portal for qualified applicants from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 graduating cohorts.

According to him, priority will be given to applicants willing to serve in deprived and hard-to-reach areas.

“I am happy to note and announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval from the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of teachers across the country. We will be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers. We want the process to be open, transparent, and competitive,” he said.

The minister added that the exercise is expected to ease pressure on the education system by filling critical vacancies, particularly in rural communities where shortages persist.

Authorities say the recruitment will be conducted in a transparent and competitive manner to ensure fairness and improve the quality of teaching delivery nationwide.
