Mahama doubles security recruitment to 40,000

In a bid to strengthen national security and expand job opportunities, President John Dramani Mahama has directed an increase in the number of security personnel to be recruited across the country.

The President held a high-level meeting on March 16, 2026, with heads of the nation’s security agencies, the Minister for the Interior, and the Acting Minister for Defence to discuss the ongoing recruitment process.

Following briefings on the progress of recruitment, President Mahama announced that the total number of recruits will rise from 20,000 to 40,000 over the next four years.

The directive underscores the government’s commitment to not only enhancing security but also ensuring fairness and transparency in the recruitment process.

Officials present at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Prisons, Director General of the Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission.

This expansion marks a significant step in boosting the country’s security framework while creating more employment opportunities for citizens across various sectors of the security services.
