The former president and flagbearer of the New Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama promised the youth that he would provide a wealth of employment options that would satisfy their varied needs and goals.
He said, during the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2024 Youth Manifesto launch yesterday in Accra “We will create the jobs that young people have been waiting for, and when the jobs are created, no one will be left behind.”
In order to win back the presidency, Mr. Mahama, who intends to use the youth’s votes, stated that the next NDC government would address the urgent issues of unemployment, underemployment, and skills mismatch that have long beset the nation’s youth, with an emphasis on equitable access and inclusivity.
He emphasized the value of youth empowerment and involvement in the growth of the nation, saying that the next NDC government would lay the groundwork for the nation’s youth to prosper.
The former president declared, “I am proud to reaffirm our pledge, the Mahama and Naana supporting digital startups and incubation hubs, and training one million young Ghanaians in coding, as we celebrate young people’s contribution to leveraging digital tools for positive change.”
He said that the coding initiative was included in the NDC’s 2020 manifesto and that any copies of it that were made elsewhere had to be obtained by copying the party.
“Go to the NDC 2020 manifesto and look at page 88; you will see the million coders program there if you want to know who has plagiarized who,” he added.
He went on to highlight how the 24-hour economy strategy could act as a potential accelerator to increase the number of work options available to individuals.
Furthermore, we intend to collaborate with the private sector to spend the equivalent of $3 billion in order to establish a thriving fintech and technology industry that would generate employment opportunities and contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.
“We’re going to change the game with our 24-hour economy policy in 2025. It will create new job opportunities, encourage entrepreneurship, and stimulate innovation,” he explained.
The youth manifesto unveiling was a colorful and dynamic occasion with heartfelt speeches by young people with strong voices.
The event started with a preview of the NDC youth song and was held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium.
A number of prominent party figures were there, including Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the party’s running mate.
A number of parliamentary candidates, party executives, and young leaders from across the Jane administration’s commitment to advance digital skills and training for Ghanaian youth were among the other important visitors, including National young Organiser George Opare Addo, Deputy National Youth Organiser Ruth Dela Sedoh, and other prominent individuals.
All young Ghanaians will be able to prosper in the digital era, in our vision of the future. Our commitment to the nation stems from this.
The NDC’s youth-focused agenda attracted a sizable number of passionate young people, who were given the party’s intentions for their future throughout the event.
The main points of the manifesto were delivered in two sections, with speakers addressing a range of themes including young entrepreneurship, education, health care, and political fairness.
